Cheat sheet: Double cleanse in half the time!

Double cleansing. Now, this is certainly nothing new, and we’re certain you’ve heard of this skincare technique that many beauty gurus swear by – but we also know you know how long double cleansing takes.

If you’re wondering who should do the double cleanse, the short answer is everyone! This is a practice that can benefit anyone with any skin type and concern. Over the course of your day, your face ends up covered in sebum, dirt, dead skin cells, sunscreen, and (if you wear makeup) cosmetic products. Fail to wash them all off thoroughly and you’ll find that your complexion is more prone to breakouts, acne, and congestion. Not a good look.

What is it anyway?

First things first – what it means to double cleanse. Just as its name suggests, this technique sees the use of two types of cleansers to wash the face. It usually sees the use of an oil-based cleanser followed by a water-based one. This gets your skin as clean as possible without irritating it.

But did you know that the double cleanse works on a science-backed principle?

The oil-based cleanser works to effectively remove excess oil and oil-based product residue from the face. Then, the water-based cleanser that follows will further get rid of any pore-clogging and comedogenic dirt that remains. The end result – clean skin that’s not dehydrated. Putting it simply, the double cleanse was designed to be gentle yet thorough.

So, how do you do it?

As mentioned, double cleansing starts with an oil-based cleanser. It’s usually best to start off with clean, dry hands and a dry face. Pump the product onto your palms and massage it right onto the skin, working it in to allow whatever is on your face to ‘melt’ away. Then, emulsify the oil with a bit of water, continuing your massage (yes, this is actually a very relaxing skincare step). Keep adding on more water until the oil washes away and voila! You’re done with your first step in this two-part cleanse. This is just the first step and you’re already about five minutes in. You’ve still got the second half of your double cleanse to go.

Double the cleanse, half the time

What if we told you that there’s a product out there that can help you do both steps at once? Saving you both time and money.

Our recommendation is to rid your skin of any and all bits of dirt and nasties lurking around on your face with a micellar water. This is a multi-purpose product that essentially sees nano-sized balls of oil cleanser called micelles suspended in a soft water. These microscopic oil particles naturally attract dirt and oil, while their teeny tiny size makes them even more effective at cleansing out your skin in the gentlest of ways. What that means is a micellar water can be used as a cleanser, makeup remover, and even a moisturiser!

Of course, B&B Labs has one of its own. Our Micro-Molecule Gentle Cleansing Solution is an award-winning formula that does more than a regular micellar water. In addition to cleansing, removing makeup, and moisturising, it tones and exfoliates the skin too. But it does so in a way that’s so gentle, even the most sensitive skin types (like those suffering eczema or rosacea) can use it.

Each drop of our Micro-Molecule Gentle Cleansing Solution is bursting with micelles but has two powerful additional ingredients Aquaxyl and Salicylic Acid. The former, Aquaxyl, is ECOCERT- and NATRUE-approved, providing 3D hydration by preventing moisture loss, restoring moisture retention, and increasing moisture in the deepest layers of skin. The latter ingredients, Salicylic Acid, unclogs pores and dissolves the ‘intercellular’ glue that holds skin cells together, thus exfoliating the skin for a deeper cleansing effect.

So there you have it! A two-in-one double cleanse that’ll leave you with a refreshed and healthier complexion.
